Peter Goodfellow. Award winning maker of violins, violas and cellos

The Maker

Peter Goodfellow is originally from Australia and is currently based in the Scottish Highlands. He studied at the Newark School of Violin Making graduating in 1999 with an Upper Merit.

Peter's passion is in crafting fine quality concert violins, violas and violoncellos. The inspiration for his work is taken from the classical Italian masters in combination with modern concepts and interpretation.

His interests are in classical design, acoustics research and the incorporation of modern technology to achieve consistency and sound quality in his instruments.

By its very nature violin making is a solitary occupation. Peter's approach is one of continual learning, development and collaboration with musicians and like minded colleagues provides that stimulus. He is a regular participant in the Violin Society of America's, Oberlin Violin Making program.

His instruments have received awards at several major international competitions. Most recently the, "Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris", Gold Medal for cello at the 4th Concours Etienne Vatelot, Paris 2011.

The Gold Medal Cello will be exhibited in Paris at the Musée de la Musique, from 10th to 22nd January 2012. As part of a special event with the Musée de la musique (Cité de la musique) the awarded instruments will be played on 8th January 2012.
